Project Brief

Creator:

Mathias Baumann

Project Type:

Cinematic Music Fusion Collaboration

Title:

Sonic Landscapes

Overview:
Sonic Landscapes is a groundbreaking music and film project conceived and directed by Mathias Baumann. It brings together a diverse collective of musicians from all 4 provinces of Ireland in a unique cross-border artistic collaboration. This project celebrates the cultural richness and natural beauty of the island through a unified audiovisual experience.

Concept:
My aim is to complete a cinematic symphony in four movements — one for each province — blending musical traditions with contemporary and improvised elements. This will be paired with a short film capturing the landscapes, emotions, and people behind the music.

Objectives:

  • To promote cultural unity and collaboration across all counties of Ireland.

  • To represent the diversity and fusion of Irish musical traditions and modern expressions.

  • To highlight the natural beauty of Ireland through immersive cinematography.

  • To encourage cross-border artistic dialogue and collaboration.

Output:
A full-length film and accompanying soundtrack album in form of premium vinyl, photo book, with potential for live screenings & performances across Ireland and internationally.

Target Audience:
General public, nature, arts and culture enthusiasts, educational institutions, and global audiences interested in Irish culture, music, and landscape.

Impact:
Sonic Landscapes aims to foster a renewed sense of shared identity on the island of Ireland — bridging geographic, cultural, and political boundaries through the universal language of music and the emotional power of visual storytelling.

Please keep in mind that the musical style and genre will be slightly different and adapted to the inspiration and research from visiting the four provinces, and the featured musicians that are involved. Each movement/film will feature footage from one province only.
