Sonic Landscapes - Season One - Episode One - 01 Maiden Voyage

Today marks the launch of my Sonic Landscapes project. This isn’t a traditional album, EP, or single release. Rather than simply handing you a finished record (and by record, I primarily mean vinyl, which will also be available on streaming platforms), I’m inviting you to walk alongside me as it comes to life.

Sonic Landscapes is a deeply personal journey. It is a vision for connection, an attempt to bridge geographic, cultural, and political boundaries through the universal language of music and the quiet, emotional resonance of visual storytelling. In Ireland, I found new love and hope – a place I am proud to call home, not just musically. This project is my love letter to that experience.

Think of Sonic Landscapes as a television series, unfolding across seasons and episodes.

Our first season is devoted entirely to the island of Ireland. It will comprise nature photography and video footage, all captured by me, accompanied by my original music in the form of a four-part symphony, blending Irish musical traditions with contemporary and improvised elements. Each musical movement will culminate in a feature-film-length episode, bringing together the visual landscapes and soundscapes of Ireland in a style I call CiProJaRo (Cinematic · Progressive · Jazz · Rock).

Season One will consist of four episodes. Each episode represents one movement of the symphony, with each movement dedicated to one of Ireland’s four historic provinces.

Some of the visual memories we will explore along the way, such as the photographs, videos, sounds, composition, and orchestration ideas in the form of raw footage, were captured a long time ago. As we embark on this journey together, we will uncover their background stories, look at them through a new lens, and select our favourite elements to weave into our present narrative.

Our journey begins in the northeast of Leinster. From the rugged, myth-steeped edges of Carlingford, we will travel south, moving through Dublin before disappearing into the wild expanse of the Wicklow Mountains. At the end of this first part of our mutual adventure, all of these fragments will converge into our first episode and our first symphonic movement.

Let’s take off on our maiden voyage and fly with the wind to the peak of Slieve Foye.
